Recently Google announced they were ending the Free Legacy G Suite plans.
They’ll convert them to “Google for Workspace” (the service’s new name) in May.
Great question! If you don’t know, please reach out to us – or you can visit mxtoolbox.com and enter your website. If you see anything that says “google.com”, Google handles your email.
How do you know if you’re affected by this change?
If you are not paying for your Google email, you will need to arrange to stay with Google (by setting up billing with them), or find other email hosting (we now offer email hosting).
When does this change happen?
This begins May 1, when your Legacy G Suite account will be converted to a regular Google For Workspace account. There is a 2-month free period, and billing will commence in July after that, if no action is taken.
If you would like to continue using Google as your email service, you’ll need to enter billing information in order to have the service continue to work past July 1.
How do you choose what to do?
We’re happy to talk with you about your email, to find the best solution for your needs, and every client of ours has a different requirement for their email hosting.
Will you lose all your email?
We can help to make sure you don’t.
We understand email is among the most important information you have, and keeping it is often critical.
If you decide to make the move on your own, just pay your email bill from Google ($7.80 CAD per email address, per month) and you’ll be all set.
If you want to move to our service (or anywhere else online), we can help you migrate your email so it’s not lost. Anywhere you move it, there will typically be a cost, and if you want email hosting in addition to your website hosting, we can offer that for an additional fee.
What happens if you switch to self-hosted email? Isn’t Google mail great?
We love Google mail’s feature set – their spam filter is second to none, and it is very convenient to have your email stored on a cloud at low cost (or no cost). The server configuration and maintenance is done for you, and they have support if you are facing any issues.
Of course as many have said, “if a service is free, you are the product”. This comes at the cost of advertising, and Google using information about you to advertise.
We want you to be able to make an informed decision on the best option for your email hosting. Please reach out if you have any questions.
